The Challenge

The NEA Member Benefits (NEAMB) website is a lifeline for three million educators nationwide, providing access to benefits, resources, and services. Every day, members log in to check offers, download materials, or manage their accounts, and they expect it to work instantly and reliably.

However, as membership and activity increased, peak enrollment periods and national campaigns heavily strained the site. Traffic surges and cascading requests risked knocking it offline when members needed it most, leading to lost trust and damage to the organization’s reputation.

To prevent that outcome, NEAMB needed to validate that its Sitecore platform could perform at scale and withstand peak traffic loads when running key marketing campaigns. They contacted Oshyn, a longtime digital partner, to help them ensure that website performance remained uninterrupted.

The Solution

NEAMB selected Oshyn for its expertise in Sitecore performance optimization and ability to deliver cost-efficient testing strategies. To safeguard the member experience during peak periods, Oshyn designed and executed a targeted load-testing plan focused on the homepage.

Automated scripts simulated user traffic in phased sequences to observe performance under varying conditions. Key performance indicators, such as load times, response rates, error thresholds, and resource usage, were monitored using AWS CloudWatch and PRTG Network Monitor. This would allow Oshyn to pinpoint the traffic levels where issues occurred and where recovery was stabilized.

Oshyn automated the process and created reusable test scripts with a documented methodology for future use, providing NEAMB with clear insights into operational limits and practical recommendations to improve stability and scalability.

The Outcome

Oshyn’s load testing initiative successfully defined the performance limits of the NEAMB homepage, reaching the 80th percentile for average response time.
