Oshyn reuses a proven component library to deliver the Air District's Annual Report website in under five weeks.
The Challenge
For the almost 8 million people living in the Bay Area, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), also known as the Air District, regulates air pollution and protects the region's air quality. Residents and businesses rely on the Air District's website to check air quality conditions, file permits, and access regulatory information.
Each year, the Air District uses its Annual Report to show what it accomplished, where pollution and health risks stand, and whether it met its regulatory goals.
However, building that site from scratch each year was expensive and time-consuming. For 2025, the Air District needed a way to build the site without compromising performance, accessibility, or SEO.
The Air District had already worked with Oshyn on a proven design system and component library for its Strategic Plan website. So they turned to Oshyn to reuse that foundation for the Annual Report website without introducing risk to either site or slowing down delivery.
The Solution
The Air District selected Oshyn for its proven expertise in Sitecore Headless and its track record of delivering high-performing, accessible, SEO-friendly digital experiences.
Oshyn accelerated the development of the 2025 Annual Report website by reusing the proven design, components, and functionality already built for the Strategic Plan site. They analyzed the Annual Report's requirements against the existing component inventory to find the most efficient build path.
Wherever possible, they reused and extended proven Sitecore Headless components rather than rebuilding them, introducing new functionality only where the content genuinely called for it. The new Sitecore solution, built with Sitecore JSS and GraphQL and hosted on AWS Amplify, gives BAAQMD's content team an easy-to-manage authoring experience and a maintainable foundation for future enhancements.
The new 2025 Annual Report website featured metrics and stats displays, infographics, charts, feature stories, a progress dashboard, a timeline, and detail pages for goals and strategies. It turned a year's worth of regulatory and environmental progress into something residents can actually browse and understand at a glance.
Oshyn also used dependency mapping and impact analysis before every change, along with an incremental delivery approach to demo new features, gather feedback, and make adjustments. This prevented the reused components on the Annual Report website from affecting the experience already live on the Strategic Plan website.
The Outcome
Oshyn's component reuse strategy meant that the 2025 Annual Report website launched on schedule and allowed the team to populate the entire site with content in under five weeks.
The reusable structure now makes it easy for the Air District to update, adjust, and enhance content going forward with minimal effort. Work that used to mean starting over each year now builds on a proven foundation instead. The Air District is now considering the same framework and component model as the foundation for future websites, creating a path toward more consistency, faster delivery, and simpler maintenance across its digital properties.
