A comprehensive Sitecore audit turned a site plagued by daily outages into a stable platform and grew into a multi-year maintenance partnership.
The Challenge
Critical care nurses rely on continuing education credits, clinical practice guidelines, and certification resources to provide the best possible care to patients and their families. For many of them, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) website helps them stay up to date as they perform work with life-or-death stakes.
Unfortunately, the AACN website went down more than 5 times per day due to issues with their outdated Sitecore implementation. AACN wanted to modernize by upgrading to the latest version of Sitecore, but years of template sprawl, over-engineered code, and a brittle integration with its Association Member Management Software had left the platform difficult to stabilize, let alone upgrade. AACN was also in the middle of a data center migration, further destabilizing an already fragile environment.
AACN needed a partner who could diagnose the root causes, fix what was actively breaking, and chart a credible path forward, so they turned to Oshyn.
The Solution
AACN selected Oshyn for its years of experience with Sitecore. They began with a comprehensive Sitecore Technical Audit that evaluated configuration, code quality, server setup, and adherence to Sitecore best practices. This included examining everything from templates and layouts to search, xDB, and code security. Oshyn also showed flexibility by accomplishing this while the environment was still in flux from AACN's data center move.
Oshyn addressed production emergencies as they surfaced, easing pressure on AACN's internal team in real time. Oshyn built a proof of concept to migrate off Xcore, a deprecated framework incompatible with Sitecore 9, establishing the strategy AACN would need before any upgrade could proceed.
Oshyn also refactored AACN's Azure DevOps pipelines and delivered continuous fixes and enhancements to the platform over multiple years.
The Outcome
Since Oshyn took on ongoing maintenance, AACN's platform has remained stable, secure, and up to date, moving from more than five outages a day to consistent, reliable uptime. AACN also received a prioritized roadmap to reduce architectural complexity and prepare for a Sitecore upgrade.
Oshyn’s work with AACN led to a multi-year partnership that included ongoing maintenance and DevOps improvements, ensuring the AACN website could continue to provide nurses with online learning resources.
