Dole Food Company, Inc., is one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of high-quality fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Dole is an industry leader in many of the products it sells, as well as in nutrition education.
Dole was looking for ways to increase the reliability and fault tolerance of their website, DoleSunshine.com. They were also looking for ways to automate processes through continuous integration in order to reduce outages and the inevitable human error.
Oshyn recommended a new Azure cloud-based architecture as well as an upgrade to the latest version of Sitecore. After presenting the most comprehensive plan for quickly upgrading and migrating Dole to Azure, the agricultural giant approved the project. The process began with a Sitecore audit that included a roadmap for upgrading Sitecore and re-platforming to Azure.
Oshyn then built a Continuous Integration process in Azure DevOps to facilitate testing and deployments without downtime. All environments were built out in Azure. Code and content were upgraded, and advanced metrics and monitoring were put in place to provide indicators about website health. This allowed for problems to be addressed before they caused outages.
All infrastructure was rebuilt in Azure using Azure PaaS for Sitecore Web Apps, giving the Dole website 99.99% availability. Application Insights were implemented on all Azure resources and Oshyn’s DevOps team was integrated to receive and respond to notifications.
The results for Dole were fantastic, with new deployments taking less than ten minutes and without any site outages. Dole now has access to the latest Sitecore features, and user traffic increased by 170% within 2 months of the relaunch.
Automated testing runs nightly, ensuring that the site is always functioning as expected.
Dole opted to continue working with Oshyn on website enhancements, issue prevention, and rapid response.
