City of Torrance
RedDot CMS Performance Improvement
![]()
The Challenge
The City of Torrance uses RedDot CMS known currently known as Open Text Web Solutions to update and manage content on http://www.torranceCA.gov. The website is a public-facing website used to provide information to the residents and businesses of the City of Torrance, as well as information about the municipal government. The city required a solution to automatically update an external database when changes are made in RedDot CMS. The City of Torrance defined the database table structure and the stored procedure and hired Oshyn for integration with RedDot.
The Solution
Oshyn chose to use a solution where a workflow step (built into RedDot) generated an XML with the necessary page data. This XML would be generated in a specific directory inside the RedDot server. A .NET Windows Service, developed by Oshyn, would consume these XML files generated by RedDot and directly communicate with the external SQL server database and execute the stored procedure developed by City of Torrance. The project was completed within a week.
The Results

The City of Torrance’s external database now automatically updates with RedDot CMS data. Every time an editor updates or creates a new page, the process transparently occurs.
"You guys went above and beyond my expectations. Your team is very knowledgeable and responsive. I would definitely recommend you for other projects."
