A new WCAG 2.0-compliant website built on Sitecore XP enhances the user experience for San Diego County residents who want to get information about projects in their county.
The Challenge
The San Diego Association of Government (SANDAG) coordinates and resolves multiple metropolitan challenges for the residents of San Diego County. It wanted to redesign its website to deliver customers a modern and visually appealing experience. This would allow it to provide comprehensive information about initiatives, projects, and programs while improving accessibility.
However, SANDAG’s legacy CMS wasn’t up to scratch. They needed to upgrade to a modern solution in Sitecore and deploy it to Microsoft Azure, so they contacted Oshyn for assistance.
The Solution
Oshyn was selected due to years of experience working with Sitecore and a track record of building accessible websites. Additionally, SANDAG’s IT team had experience managing infrastructure on Microsoft Azure but had never deployed a large-scale website, something Oshyn had done numerous times.
Oshyn built the new website on Sitecore XM and incorporated multiple page templates and reusable components, enabling the SANDAG marketing team to make changes easily.
The website was deployed on Azure using native Azure services, including Azure Front Door for global content delivery, Azure App Services for application hosting, and Azure Blog Storage for storing critical data and assets.
SOLR was implemented to provide search functionality in three key areas, allowing site visitors to locate the information they sought. Oshyn also developed an interactive calendar to ensure that the website followed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), making it easier for SANDAG to update events. This would allow San Diego residents to identify and register for events and public meetings and find critical information.

The Outcome
Since launching the new SANDAG website, San Diego residents have enjoyed a user-friendly experience. Thanks to Oshyn, SANDAG now has a modern website. Accessibility scores have also increased from poor to good, consistently over 90/100.
